The law of the haul of the death of the character

ANSWER

Haul is an annual warning (hauliyah) for someone’s death such as ulama, pious people, or anyone who is considered his life has an influence on those who commemorate him. In it is filled with prayer, dhikr, reading the Koran, and usually read biography of pious people (the term Manaqib), and charity from the organizer to those present in the form of eating and drinking.

This activity is disputed by the scholars:

– Some rejected it on the grounds that the Prophet ﷺ never carried it out as well as the friends.

Rasulullah (may peace on it) said:

Anyone who created this is what is not from that, that is a response. “Ruated by Al -Bukhari and Muslim

“Anyone who is making up new things in our affairs is rejected.” (HR. Bukhari and Muslim).

If it is good, of course, they (the Prophet and his friends) do it (the law of kaana khairan lasaabaquuna ilaihi).

– Some say may, and have a strong foundation of the behavior of the Prophet ﷺ and the Salaf. In other words, it is not true if it is said that haul does not have a basis.

In the book of Medina Al Munawwarah, Imam Ibn Syubbah said:

On the authority of Abbad bin Abi Saleh: that the messenger of Allah ﷺ used to come to the graves of the martyrs with one in each head about it, and he said, “Peace, what you have patient, so we will do the hearts of the house.” He said: Abu Bakr came there, then Omar, then Uthman. When Muawiyah bin Abi Sufyan gave pilgrims, he came to them

From ‘Ibad bin Abi Shalih, that: “Rasulullah ﷺ used to go to the grave of the martyrs of Uhud every year, then said:

{Peace Be on you with what you have patient.

“Good luck for you for your patience.” So how happy it will end. (Surah Ar Ra’du: 24)

‘Ibad bin Abi Shalih said: “Abu Bakr, Umar, and Uthman, also came to him (martyr grave)

(Imam Ibnu Syubbah, Date of Madinah Al Munawwarah, Volume. 1, p. 132)

This hadith shows that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has an annual habit at the beginning of the year, visiting the martyrs of Uhud, and prayed for them. Even this habit was followed by his main friends.

So, humans gather well at home, mosques, or good places, to read the Quran, memories, prayers to practice the lives of scholars, mujahids, preachers, pious, to get lessons from them, and give alms in their names, also clean from evil things, then all of this is good.

Al Hafizh Ibn Hajar Rahimahullah said:

Commemoration of the day of death for some saints and scholars

Commemorating the day of the death of the saints and scholars including charity that is not prohibited by the Shari’a. Usually the warning contains at least three things: the grave pilgrimage, alms and drinks, these two things are not prohibited from religion, while the third element, because there is a reading of the Koran and religious advice, sometimes also said by Manqib (biography) of people who have died, this method is good to motivate others to follow the praiseal path that has been done by the deceased. (Syarh Al Ihya ‘, Volume. 3, pp. 41-42)

Imam Asy Syukani Rahimahullah explained:

The ongoing habits in several meetings in the mosque to recite the dead Qur’an, as well as in homes and all other meetings that were not mentioned in sharia. There is no doubt that they are free from the indifference of the sound of crime, it is permitted

The habit that takes place in a part of the country in the form of gathering in the mosque to read the Qur’an for people who have died, as well as gathering in homes, and all the sharia associations have not mentioned, no doubt if all of it is empty of immorality and clean of the evil then it is allowed. (Ar Rasaail as Salafiyah, p. 46)

Furthermore:

Adult friends lost their homes and in their mosques, and including their Prophet, and they were looking for poetry, studying news, eating and drinking

Previously, the Prophet’s friends gathered in their homes, in the mosque, and the Prophet was still by his side, they paid poetry, remind each other (hadith), and eating and drinking. (Ibid)

Therefore, please help parents in this matter, by pursuing the education of scholars who allow them. However, do not deny the rejection. Just like the rejected party should not deny the party.

Imam Sufyan Ats Tsauri Rahimahullah gave advice:

If you see a man who does work where he does not agree and you see other people, don’t end.

“If you see someone doing something that is still debated, if you have another opinion, then don’t prevent it.”

(Imam Abu Nu’aim Al Asbahany, Hileatul Auliya, 3/133)

Imam Ahmad bin Hambal commented on people who pray two rak’ahs after Asr:

We don’t do it or mistakes

We did not do it but we did not judge the disgrace of the people who did it.

(Al Mughni, 2/87, Syarhul Kabir, 1/802)
