A teacher, both religious teachers (teaching the Koran, fiqh, etc.), and worldly science teachers, both in official institutions such as schools, campuses, pesantren, or in mosques or office recitation, both monthly or each session, are cases that are debated by fiqh scholars.

Some scholars forbid wages from teaching religion, such as the opinion of Imam Abu Hanifah and Classical Hanafiyah, for those wages from teaching religion it is feared to damage the vulnerable values of sincerity and blessings, and bring in the attitude of commercialization of religion.

In addition, the Prophet Sallallaahu ‘Alaihi wa Sallam specifically forbade valid hadith:

Read the Qur’an, don’t boil in it, don’t dry it, don’t eat it, and don’t double it with it

Read the Quran, do not go beyond the limits of reading it, don’t be stiff, don’t try to eat it, and not improve the world with it. (Jam Ahmad no. 15670)

From Abu Sa’id Al Khudri Radhiallahu ‘Anhu, the Prophet Sallallaahu’ Alaihi wa Sallam said:

Imam An Nawawi Rahimahullah said:

It is possible for you to take wages from teaching the Koran. Because the Prophet Sallallaahu ‘Alaihi wa Sallam married a man with a woman, the man taught the Al -Koran woman he had read, and that was his dowry. Friends also take wages from treating the disease of people who do not believe in their mercy with Al Fatihah.
