In what cases can you tell your partner about your disgrace?

QUESTION:

: Assalammu’alaikum ust, Afwan is a bit of a waste of time

In the Qur’an, Surah Al Baqarah verse 187, it is said that husband and wife are:

Clothes for you and you are clothes for them…

The interpretation:
Husband and wife are to take care of their respective disgrace or the shortcomings of their partner…

The question is, what kind of things do the ulama think a wife or husband can say about their partner’s faults? What are the limits?

ANSWER

Wa’alaikumussalam warahmatullah wabarakatuh

In general, exposing the disgrace of fellow Muslims is prohibited, including the disgrace of one’s husband/wife. It is recommended to cover disgrace, as hadith:

Whoever protects a Muslim, Allah will protect him on the Day of Resurrection

Whoever covers the faults of a Muslim, Allah will cover his faults on the Day of Judgment. (HR. Muslim)

However, there are conditions where it is permissible to reveal disgrace if it is necessary to do so or if there is a benefit. For example:

– In the context of consultation. A wife tells her husband’s illness, or vice versa, to a doctor to seek a cure. These diseases are a shame, for example HIV, or skin diseases in certain parts of the body, which people are usually embarrassed to know about.

– In order to complain about injustice. For example, a wife who complains about her husband’s injustice, or vice versa, to her parents or to a judge to find a solution and decision.

So, this is not a story based solely on lust or emotion.
