He is a Mufti, Mufti, Imam Rabbani, and is known as “Sheikh of the Second Islam”, Abu Abdillah Syamsuddin Muhammad bin Abi Bin Ayyub bin Sa’ad Az-Zur’i Ad-Dimasyqi which is famous by the nickname Ibn Qayyim Al-Jaz, Nothing Ibn Qayyim Al-Jaz, Al-Kawtsari in the name of “Ibn Zafil”.

Birth

He –Rahimahullah– Born on the seventh day of the month of Shafar in 691 Hijri.

Family and childhood

Ibn Qayyim Al-Jauziyah grew up in the scientific environment under his father’s care, a Saleh Scholar, Qayyim Al-Jauziyah. He learned science Faraidh (distribution of inheritance) from the father. Biographical books mentioned several family members such as his nephew, Abu Al-Fida ‘Imaduddin Isma’il bin Zainuddin Abdurrahman, who has most of his uncle’s library. His children, namely Abdullah and Ibrahim, are also known as the prosecutors of science.

Ibn Qayyim Al-Jauziyah-Rahimahullah– known to have an extraordinary spirit in studying knowledge and perseverance and sacrifice in research from an early age. He narrated the hadith of Ash-Syihab al-‘Abir who died in 697 H, and he said, “I narrated from him some parts, but I did not have time to read deeply because of my small age, and he died-Rahimahullah-. “

Scientific journey

Ibn Qayyim Al-Jauziyah-Rahimahullah– Several times visited Cairo, discussed and argued scientifically there. Al-Maqrizi said, “He came to Cairo several times.”

Ibnul Qayyim said, “I once discussed with one of the major figures in the field of medicine in Egypt.”

He also said, “I once argued with the most famous Jewish figure in science and leadership.”

He also visited Baitul Maqdis and gave lessons there. He said, “I once taught the same thing at Al-Quds.”

He is known to often fulfill the pilgrimage and live (worship) in Mecca as mentioned in some of his works. Ibn Rajab said, “He often Hajj, settled in Mecca, and Makkah residents mention the intensity of worship and the number of tawafs he did to cause astonishment.”

Ibn Qayyim Al-Jauziyah-Rahimahullah– Very fond of collecting books, which are clear evidence of his enthusiasm in seeking knowledge, both through research, writing, reading, and teaching. This is clearly seen from the breadth of knowledge in his works and extraordinary abilities in collecting propositions. Even so, he still said with humility,

Relationship with his teacher, Ibn Taimiyah

The closeness of Ibn Qayyim Al-Jauziyah with his teacher, Ibn Taimiyah, has been from his arrival in Damascus in 712 hours and lasted until his death in 728 H. So, for 16 years, he was always close to him, absorbing a lot of knowledge, and reading various disciplines in front of him.

This closeness greatly influenced Ibn Qayyim Al-Jauziyah. He participated in defending Manhaj Salaf, brought the flag after his teacher’s death, and freeing himself from fanaticism of anyone besides the Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ according to understanding Salafus shalih.

Asy-Syaukani said, “He does not depend on other than the argument. When Sheikh Taqiyuddin Ibn Taimiyah returned from Egypt in 712 hours, he always accompanied him until the teacher died. He took a lot of knowledge from him, in addition to previous study efforts. Ibn Rajab –Rahimahullah- said, “He is a philosopher in the Hanbali sect, masters him and gave him a fatwa. He is always with Sheikh Taqiyuddin (Ibn Taimiyah), and mastered various Islamic knowledge. Trials and determination

Ibn Qayyim Al-Jauziyah was jailed with his teacher, Ibn Taimiyah, in the last detention. At that time, he was separated from his teacher, humiliated, paraded in a camel, and beaten with a whip in 726 H. He was released after the death of his teacher in 728 H.

It was also imprisoned because it denied the habit of visiting Abraham’s grave (in Hebron) by making a special trip.

Died

Ibn Qayyim Al-Jauziyah-Rahimahullah– Died on Thursday night, 23 Rajab in 751 H. He was buried in Damascus, at the cemetery Ash-Shaghir chapter.
