QUESTION
Assalamualaikum, asked the ustad, it often happens that during congregational prayers, there is a cell phone beeping, even until the prayer is finished. The law is to turn off the cellphone on the floor, when we are standing, can we turn off the cellphone? Wassalamu’alaikum
ANSWER
Wa’alaikumussalam warahmatullahi wabarakatuh
Yes, just turn it off… even if you have to take your cell phone downstairs. As long as the body position is still facing the Qibla. Such movements are movements to perfect prayer and secure the prayers of many people. Because the sound of the cellphone disturbs other people.
Evidence: From Abu Hurairah Radhiallahu ‘Anhu, that the Prophet sallallaahu ‘Alaihi wa Sallam said:
(Killed two lions during prayer: a snake and a scorpion) Narrated by Ahmad and the Companions of Sunan. This hadith is good and true.
“Kill two black animals while you pray: the snake and the scorpion.” (HR. Ahmad No. 7379, Sheikh Syu’aib Al Arnauth said: his sanad is authentic. See Tahqiq Musnad Ahmad No. 7379)
Sheikh Sayyid Sabiq Rahimahullah said:
Kills snakes, scorpions, wasps and other dangerous creatures, although killing them requires a lot of work
“(It is permissible) to kill snakes, scorpions, beetles and the like which can disturb prayer, even if you use a lot of movement to kill them.” (Fiqhus Sunnah, 1/261)
Other hadith:
With Aisyah’s permission, he said: Rasulullah SAW, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was praying in the house and the door was closed, then I came and asked him to open it, and he walked over and it opened for me, then he returned to his place of prayer. He described that the door was in the Qibla. Narrated by Ahmad, Abu Dawud, Al-Nasa’i, and Al-Tirmidhi who classified it as Hasan.
From Aisyah he said: “The Prophet sallallaahu ‘Alaihi wa Sallam prayed at home and the door in front of him was closed, when I came I asked for the door to be opened. So he walked and opened the door then returned to praying.” ‘Aishah said that the door faced the direction of the Qibla. (HR. Ahmad No. 24027, Shaykh Syu’aib Al Arnauth said: hasan. Tahqiq Musnad Ahmad No. 24027)
Sheikh Abdul Muhsin Al ‘Abbad Al Badr Hafizhahullah explained:
This shows that there is no harm in performing such prayer work. Because the Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and give him peace, did what he did, and he was a role model and role model, may God’s prayers, peace and blessings be upon him.
So, this hadith shows that it is okay to do something like this during prayer, because Rasulullah Sallallahu ‘Alaihi wa Sallam did it, and he is an example and role model. (Syarh Sunan Abi Daud, 117. Al Misikat)
