The Bad Impact of Slander (Sec. 2)

Other impacts and consequences of slander include people starting to refuse to attend scientific councils, refusing to study with ulama, not wanting to study Islamic laws, and not knowing religion well. Their hearts begin to be busy with various worldly affairs, while in slander there is a fire that burns and makes people rush in their affairs. Finally, a person no longer feels calm when seeking knowledge, refuses to sit in the ulama council, and even stays away from everything.

The most dangerous thing about this is that this slander can cause people to belittle the ulama, demean their dignity, not respect their position, and even dare to tarnish their good name, either openly or without their knowledge.

Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam it has been said in a hadith,

There is no one among my people who does not pity the younger generation, respect the elders, and recognize the rights of the world.

“My group does not include people who do not love the younger, do not respect the older, and know the rights of our clerics.” (HR. Ahmad no. 22755; Al-Hakim, 1: 211. From the hadith of ‘Ubadah bin Ash-Syamit May Allah bless him and grant him peace. Al-Albani said hasan in the Sahih Al-Jami’ NO. 3521)

During this period of defamation, there will be many people who will fall into belittling the ulama, demeaning them, criticizing and accusing them, lowering their position, even accusing them of bad behavior, and daring to speak insolently that will belittle their honor and dignity. All of these are bad consequences of slander, and we seek refuge in Allah from these things.

Among the stories from history that illustrate this condition is what happened during the slander of ‘Abdurrahman bin Al-Asy’ats. When the slander exploded, a number of experts rental The Koran and many people are also involved. During the chaos, there were groups who tried to incite the community. Then they arrived at Al-Hasan Al-Basri God blessa high priest and respected cleric, he was one of the leading scholars of Islamic law at the time.

They said to Al-Hasan Al-Basri God bless,

What do you say about this tyrant – namely Al-Hajjaj – who shed haram blood, took haram money, abandoned prayers, and did and did…!?

“What do you think about the unjust ruler, namely Al-Hajjaj, who has shed haram blood, confiscated haram treasures, abandoned obligatory prayers, and committed this and that evil…?”

Then they continued Al-Hajjaj’s various bad things towards Al-Hasan Al-Bashri God bless. Then he God bless say,

I don’t think you should fight it; Because if it is a punishment from Allah – namely the power of the pilgrims – then you are willing to accept Allah’s punishment with your sword, even though it is a test; So be patient until Allah judges, because He is the best judge

“In my opinion, don’t fight it. If this condition is a punishment from Allah, namely Allah makes Al-Hajjaj rule over you, then it is impossible for you to remove Allah’s punishment with your sword. And if this is a test from Allah, then be patient until Allah Himself gives the best decision, and He is the best decision maker.”

So they withdrew from his assembly, saying,

We comply with this treatment!?

“This old man is weak!” (Al-Kubra rich Ibn Say, 7: 163–164; Al-Kuna wal-Asma’ Ad-Dulaibi’s work, 3: 1035; And Dimasyq Date, 12:178)

This slander causes people to begin to dare to lower the position of scholars, belittle them, lower their dignity, and dare to talk bad things about scientific experts. This is something that is very dangerous for humans. May Allah protect us all from such things.

Then the people who came to Al-Hasan Al-Basri, they refused to accept his advice. So they set out with Ibn Al-Ash’ath to fight against Al-Hajjaj. Unfortunately, they were all killed. They do not get any good and do not gain the slightest benefit. Why? Because they no longer attach importance to the advice of the scholars, the words of the scholars are no longer valuable in their view, and they do not pay attention to them.

Among the subsequent impacts of slander is the emergence of stupid people who are featured and become references. Those who do not have knowledge, do not understand religion, and do not understand God’s law, actually appear in public. They speak only with courage, without knowledge, without understanding, without patience, and without caution.

Then, they appear as figures, issue haphazard decisions, pass laws rashly, and then interfere in various other issues. Even though they don’t have knowledge about it, don’t understand the problem properly, don’t have patience, and don’t have mature thinking. However, their blind enthusiasm and courage actually pushed them further into this slander.

Therefore, Sheikhul Islam Ibn Taimiyah God bless once said,

If temptation occurs, a wise man will not be able to drive out a fool.

“When slander appears, intelligent people will be weak to prevent stupid people.” (Minhaj As-Sunnah, 4: 187)

This is the essence of slander, according to God’s word Story,

And beware of temptations that will not befall especially those of you who are unjust.

“And be afraid of slander which does not only befall the unjust among you.” (QS. Al-Enfal: 25)

When fitnah has occurred, almost no one is safe from it except those who have been given protection and care by Allah. We ask God Jalla wa ‘Ala to save us all from the turmoil of this slander.
