Allah Story has explained the purpose of our creation very clearly in His words,
I did not create jinn and humans except to worship Me.
“And I did not create jinn and humans except them to worship Me.” (QS. Adz-Dzariyat: 56)
A number of scholars interpret the pronunciation They worship in this verse with its meaning They brought me together (My monotheism), because worship will not be accepted except with the monotheism of Allah Story. [1]
In fact, we perform worship for ourselves, both for the benefit of this world and the hereafter. Worship is a means to fulfill the function of our existence, so that we are far from an existential crisis. Thus, the purpose of worship is not to increase God’s power, because worship does not in the least affect His greatness. In a hadith qudsi, Allah Story said, “O My servants, if the first and last people of you, humans and jinn, were all like the most devout among you, then that would not increase My kingdom in the slightest. O My servants, if the first and last people of you, humans and jinn, were all like the most evil-hearted people among you, then that would not reduce My kingdom in the slightest.” [2]
The fruit of true worship
Worship that truly produces benefits is worship that is accepted by Allah. And the greatest fruit will be the great blessing, namely meeting and seeing Allah Story in heaven as He says,
The faces that day were radiant looking at their Lord.
“The faces (of believers) on that day will be radiant. They will look to their Lord.” (QS. Al-Qiyamah: 22–23)
However, this long-awaited encounter cannot be achieved by just anyone. Only those who meet the following criteria will get it,
So whoever hopes to meet his Lord, let him do good deeds and not associate himself with anyone in worshiping his Lord.
“…Whoever hopes for a meeting with his Lord, then he should do good deeds and not associate himself with anyone in worshiping his Lord.” (QS. Al-Kahf: 110)
It is explained that the condition for obtaining virtue in this verse is to combine sincerity and Mutaba’ah (following the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ) in worship. [3] Whoever commits acts of shirk and heresy in his worship, then he does not meet the criteria above.
This little serious!
If we want to think clearly, what a loss it is to do good deeds without sincerity, because all good deeds will fail because of it, as Allah says. Knocking,
If you participate, your work will surely be canceled and you will be among those who will lose.
“…Indeed, if you associate partners with (Allah), your deeds will fail and you will undoubtedly be among the losers.” (QS. Az-Zumar: 65)
One person or log in His Majesty, Maimun bin Mihran God bless once said,
Your deeds are few, so save this little.
“Your alms are very small, so give them to me sincerely.” [4]
Generation or log in included in the best generation in Islamic history. The Prophet ﷺ said,
The best people are my generation, then the generation after that, then the generation after that
“The best people were in my (friend’s) time, and then after them (or)then after them (tabi’ut tabi’in).” [5]
Under such conditions, they still feel that they have little charity. So, what about our charity today?
Likewise with mutaba’ah, because the deeds are done without reason syar’i (heretical), the status is rejected. The Prophet ﷺ said,
Whoever inserts something that is not his part into our case, he is rejected.
“Whoever introduces a new matter in our affairs (religion) that is not of his own, then it is rejected.” [6]
Worship is a performance, and the performance must follow the recipient’s criteria, not his own tastes.
Reflecting on Maimun bin Mihran’s previous words, it seems very appropriate for us to say, “Our deeds are far less than those of previous pious generations, so practice those deeds seriously and sincerely. Mutaba’ah.” Don’t let our charity, which is already very little, end up being eroded by shirk and heresy.
Healthy and normal preaching
The fact that sincere and Mutaba’ah is a condition for accepting charity, it should be the basis that healthy preaching is preaching that pays great attention to both, without making it a taboo matter. Normal da’wah must have attention in keeping people away from shirk. This is the most sincere sign of love from the preachers, like the preaching of the Prophets ‘alaihim ash-sholatu as salam. They always prioritize the preaching of monotheism according to the word of Allah Knocking,
And We have sent messengers to every nation, with the message, “Worship God and avoid injustice.”
“And indeed We have sent a messenger to every nation (to call): Worship Allah alone and stay away that hut.” (QS. An-Nahl: 36)
What is meant is that hut here are all the worship besides Allah. [7]
Healthy da’wah is da’wah that has great attention in protecting the people from tuberculosis (superstition, heresy, fat sugar), such as the attention of the Prophet ﷺ who warned the people not to commit heretical acts on various occasions in his sermons. He ﷺ said,
And be careful of new discoveries, because every new discovery is an innovation, and every innovation is a mistake.
“Beware of new things that are created, for every new thing (in religion, pen.) is heresy, and every heresy is heresy.” [8]
This hadith is a proof that all heresy in religious matters is prohibited.
Let’s shift our focus for a moment to reread the priority scale. Recently, we still see some preachers often discussing general themes which are indeed important, but do not provide portions to warn the people of the dangers of shirk and heresy, even if it is just a small aside in the midst of discussing other useful topics.
Let’s say someone disagrees with some rituals that are considered shirk. So, to what extent are they serious about preaching the practice of shirk that they agree with? Ironically, some parties are widely known for their sharp criticism of the preaching of monotheism, not for preaching monotheism itself.
Let’s say some parties believe that some heresies are good and some are forbidden. So, how hard have they tried to prohibit people from practicing practices that they consider to be forbidden heresy? It would be a shame if the ones who diligently convey only the heresies that they consider to be good, they rarely convey any forbidden heresies as if they don’t exist. Isn’t this also a scientific mandate that people need to understand?
As a result, there are still many people who do not know the term bid’ah at all. There are also those who are allergic to hearing the words shirk and bid’ah as if these words are haram to say, even though these two terms are familiar in the Islamic scientific tradition over time. There are also those who misunderstand, such as thinking that going on the Hajj by plane is heretical, even though it is only a worldly means that has no real value of worship. Such are the consequences of preaching that is not fair and proportional.
God willing Story always gives us guidance to worship sincerely and follow the guidance of the Prophet ﷺ, keeps us away from polytheism and heresy, and strengthens us in monotheism and sunnah until the end of our lives, so that we will be given the pleasure of meeting and looking at Allah. Story in His heaven someday.
